smart_toy About the Artist
Cappo (born Paul Stephen Adey) is a seminal figure in the UK hip-hop scene, hailing from Nottingham. Over a career spanning more than two decades, he has established himself as a "rapper's rapper," revered for his intricate, multi-layered lyricism and his deep engagement with literature and philosophy. After beginning his journey in the hip-hop culture as a graffiti artist, he transitioned into an MC and released his debut EP, Cap 3000, in 1999. Since then, he has released a vast catalog of underground classics, including his acclaimed 2003 debut LP Spaz the World and his 2018 collaboration Postmodernism, while regularly performing across Europe alongside iconic acts like Public Enemy, Skepta, and The Sleaford Mods.
In recent years, Cappo has continued his relentless artistic output alongside completing a PhD at Nottingham Trent University. His 2024 concept album, Canon, produced entirely by Kong the Artisan, was released in three distinct chapters—Pain, Escapism, and Absolution—showcasing his evolving maturity and storytelling prowess. Following that success, his latest musical endeavors include the 2025 album Ito and the late 2025 archival release CAPStone via Plague, which features a massive collection of unreleased material and career retrospectives. Moving into 2026, he continues to push boundaries with new singles like "I.Y.N.K." and raw live performances, maintaining his status as one of the most uncompromising voices in underground rap.
